Working on Cybex machines with slow reps?
I watched a couple of guys at the gym last night: They’d set the machine on medium heavy weights, then do one positive movement for 10 seconds, then the negative for 15 – 17 seconds. (I was counting in my head while I watched them.)
So on the chest press machine, he’d press up for 10 seconds, then let it down for 15 or more seconds. They’d only do, like 2 sets on each machine.
What’s the benefit from going that slow and doing few reps? How long would you keep up that routine before you went back to 12/10/8 sets?
Actually there is no real benefit of slow reps. As long you lift your weight in a controlled manner and lower it again in a controlled manner, you are good!
When we lift weights, the body uses carbs ( and later fat ) as a fuel and combines oxygen with it to give you the strength. But if you do weights slowly ( and hold them in a position for too long ) , your body will use up all the energy and your workouts will suffer.
Its better to lift weights with proper form but do your reps as fast as possible. Of course the more weight/load you lift the slower you will be but dont take forever to lift the weight.
