What is this strange box Cybex SwitchView?

I am going to describe a little box I saw in computer lab and I don’t know what it is or what it does.

It’s called “Cybex Switch View”. At the front there are four LED lights and a button labelled “Switch”.

The back of the box has 5 sets of the same things: a monitor hole, keyboard hole, mouse hole.

Se the back of the box has 5 monitor holes, five keyboard holes, five mouse holes in total. They are grouped into five lots of: monitor hole, keyboard hole, mouse hole.

On top of each lot (of monitor+keyboard+mouse holes) is labelled User A, User B, User C, User D.

My question is: what is this box? what does it do? I can’t understand why would anyone want to connect five monitors, five keyboards, five mice to a same box.

This is a KVM switch (Keyboard, Video Mouse)

This is used to allow you to connect 4 computers to the same keyboard, video and mouse. The letters next to the LEDs refer to the computer that is attached to the different lettered cables attached to the back, which go on to plug into the Keyboard, videa and mouse ports on a computer. The fifth unlabled plug is what you plug the physical Keyboard video and mouse into.

This hole set up allows you to work on up to four PC’s at the same time without needing to clutter your desk with four mice keyboards etc. It is extremely useful in the computer world, and I’m writing this on a keyboard attached to one such switch at the moment.
