Race Ironman
Full ironman distance triathlon?
I’m looking to run a full early next year, April/May/June 2009. I want to go then before the army scoops me away for a month of field training and all my biking and swimming skills deteriorate. It doesn’t need to be Ironman sponsored just the distance, (2.4/112/26.2). Me and my buddy aren’t scared of a road trip, but close to Maryland as possible is nice. Where is one, or what website has a good directory of races?
If late October works, see link below. I’ve done Great Floridian twice. Not Ironman brand, but a great race, professionally run. Nationally recognized as “the People’s Ironman”. Be aware that the bike course is a lot hillier and tougher than you would expect for Florida. Sugarloaf will get your attention.
Clermont is a little west of Orlando.
Only race of I can think of in your time frame is Ironman Brazil at the end of May. When I peeked at the website, it said they were still accepting registrations. The U.S. Domestic Ironman brand races generally sell out the next year shortly after each year’s event.
GFT often doesn’t sell out, so you can make the October decision after your field training if need be.

Edit: There’s also Wildflower in May. No personal experience with it, but its been around forever and I’ve heard good things.
